Item Description: Original Photograph, by Joan Schulte, entitled, “Stitzel Cooperage.” For Bourbon enthusiasts and explorers on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, here is an original photo that shows the handmade barrels of the Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky, where Bulleit Bourbon is made. Due to the cracking nature of the paper, and the varying material that I use for my wood supports, no two pieces are identical.” Each piece is hand signed by the artist and is ready to hang on the wall or it may easily be displayed in a collection on a flat surface, like on a book case your fireplace mantle. First Image represents the image prior to application to wood panel support. Other images are a representation of an example of how the item may look in detail after it is made.
|Production Method||The photo has been transferred onto a hand-crafted, rectangular box panel (or support) which is made from locally sourced (in Louisville, Ky) salvaged or reclaimed wood, such as doors or discarded shelving. Here is Joan’s Artist Statement regarding her process: “My photographic transfers begin as an original photograph taken with my Nikon D7000 (as shown in the first photograph.) I print my photos onto a transfer paper using an Epson 4900 ink jet printer. I build each support (wood panel) for my photo transfers using only reclaimed wood materials. When I transfer the photo onto the wood support, the image becomes very delicate and will crack during the drying process. This creates a unique piece that has the intentional look of being aged, rustic, and/or of a distressed quality, in order to evoke an overall sense of nostalgia for the viewer.|
